 Band Director I / Fine Arts Director

Mr. Gary S. Miller Jr.

My name is Gary S. Miller Jr, I am currently the Head Band Director of The Royal High School Band also known as The "Royal Marching Sound Machine". I was born in Prairie View, TX and graduated from Waller High School. I also graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a BA Degree in Music Performance, specializing in Euphonium and Tuba. I have been teaching music for over 15 years, 10 of those being for Royal ISD. 

As Head Director of The RISD Music Program my vision is to create a culture of success among students and staff. The RISD music program will produce students that perform and compete at the highest levels of musicianship at all times. This will comply with the standards of musical education mandated by TEKS and assist in providing the students of RISD with the best music education possible. Once all of these goals are met it will result in superior ratings in UIL as well as all other competitions and activities we are involved in. Our primary objective is to be ambassadors of school pride , excellence in the field of music , and a beacon of success for RISD.

 Band Director II

Mr. Roderick Davenport

Mr. Davenport comes to Royal ISD with over 20yrs of teaching music on all levels K-12 . He is currently the Head Band Director at Royal Junior High and the Assistant Band Director at the High School with Mr. Miller and the Royal Marching Sound Machine.  He is a graduate from the University of Houston with a degree in Music Education. He also holds a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas in Houston.  Mr. Davenport has led many students and ensembles to success in Region as well as in UIL and believes that all students should be given opportunities to excel in music.  Mr. Davenport's primary instrument is saxophone and loves to play semi-professionally at different events and venues around the city.  When not teaching or playing music, he can be found taking long bike rides around town, or hanging out at home with his lovely wife Tameisha, 5 children, and 2 dogs. 

 Band Director III

Mr. Donavier Mosley

Mr. Donavier Mosley is the music teacher at Royal Elementary School. He is also one of the assistant directors of the Royal Marching Sound Machine Band at Royal High School. He will also be the acting Royal Falcon Flare colorguard Director as well as Drum Major Sponsor. This will be his first year teaching. Mr. Mosley hails from Missouri City, Texas. He is a 2014 graduate of Willowridge High School where he was a 2 year Drum Major. Mr. Mosley received a Bachelor of Arts in Instrumental Music with a specialization in Oboe in August 2021. While at Prairie View he participated in the Marching Storm, PVAMU Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, University Choir, PV singers, and various other ensembles. Mr. Mosley held several leadership roles within the music department at Prairie View such as Drillmaster for the Marching Storm and Student Director.

As the elementary music teacher, he plans to help establish vertical alignment for music within Royal ISD. He also plans to help offer a comprehensive musical experience for all Royal ISD students.

BS in Dance Education from Texas Woman's University. Ms. Villatoro has been a dance instructor for over 16 years and is a proponent of motivating young people to achieve goals in academic achievement; as well as, Fine Arts enrichment. Ms. Villatoro values are her Faith, her family, and her purpose driven lifestyle.
